Polyglot

Pent Talvet

When reading a book written in a foreign language there is nothing more annoying than the need to consult a dictionary in the middle of a thrilling read. Polyglot is a conceptual electronic translation device which makes things a lot easier. The optimistic scenario proposes that Polyglot would read the printed image, convert it to text format like character recognition software does, translates the words to a chosen language by using translation software and displays it above the original text on screen. The highlighted word is active and with the help of a navigation button one can find synonyms to it or link it with the word before or the following word, thus making up simple pairs of words that convey meaning. The Polyglot interface resembles a magnifying glass, a metaphor recognized by happy book lovers.
